LEAGUE ONE Plymouth Argyle 4 Exeter City 2

Plymouth Argyle soared four points clear at the League One summit following a thrilling 4-2 comeback win over Devon rivals Exeter City at rain-lashed Home Park.

Substitute striker Ryan Hardie was the match-winner, clinching Argyle’s club record ninth home league win on the spin with a superb late double.

Hardie roofed home on the spin on 70 minutes after collecting Morgan Whittaker’s incisive pass into the penalty area.

On 84 minutes the Scottish striker latched on to another through ball from Whittaker to slot home.

Exeter opened the scoring when Jay Stansfield shrugged off Bali Mumba’s challenge on the left flank to tee up Archie Collins for a far post tap-in on 26 minutes.

A minute later Argyle restored parity as Whittaker spun on Adam Randell’s inch perfect ball into the box to fire past Jamal Blackman.

Stansfield again split the Argyle defence again to put Nombe in on goal and he rounded Cooper to put City 2-1 ahead in the 52nd minute.

City celebrations were again short-lived as Mumba met a clearance from a corner with a thumping 25 yarder off the slick surface into the corner on 58 minutes as the derby continued at a tremendous pace.

Collins' goal-bound strike forced a superb one-handed stop from keeper Michael Cooper, who was beaten after Hardie had made it 3-2 but Harry Kite's long range thumper smashed off the bar.
