Super sub Ryan Knight conjured a late goal to earn a point for Millbrook against a strong Buckland side at Jenkins Park on Saturday.
Knight, who had been introduced after an hour with the Brook trailing to a 35th minute Rob Farkins goal, smashed home a close range shot from a corner.
After their 6-0 Western Premier thrashing at Clevedon seven days earlier, Millbrook produced a much improved performance.
Manager Macca Brown said: “I think a share of the spoils was the right result. Buckland may feel disappointed because we scored so late. “But there’s no doubt we deserved something and the fact that it was two goals from set pieces shows how close the game was, both sides worked hard to cancel each other out.“The game was tight and cagey with not many chances at all for either side really. Buckland are a top side and have quality players who have great experience, and they know how to get the edge with officials and that’s something you have to deal with and I thought we coped well with that and we really didn’t deal well with it last season at all.”He went on: “Chris (Wearing) made a great save to keep it at 1-0 with about 15 minutes to go and we were rewarded for keeping it at 1-0 by taking the late chance when it came. “Knighty’s introduction after an hour gave us a spark that was lacking, he had three chances in the time he was on and livened us up before finally equalising. “We threw on more and more forward players, tweaked things slightly tactically and I think that really helped us apply that touch more pressure needed to force the goal.” Brown revealed that after the defeat at Clevedon it had been an intense week off the field where ‘we’ve had to have a good look at ourselves’.
“I said to the lads before the game the most important thing in life is to react to setbacks, and as manager I had to react as well,” said Brown. “We had identified patterns that were costing us in games and it meant watching a number of games back and the lads have had a lot of feedback to take on board as well as training. “But that’s our job and I can’t praise them enough for taking it on board, hopefully we’ve been able to give them feedback in areas that will effect their games permanently. “To be honest even if we didn’t score late on and we lost the game 1-0, I genuinely would have been just as happy with the reaction and performance, because you have to give your all, not just physically but mentally as well, but it really is now time to turn up in this manner every single game.”
