Ewing brought his season’s total to 20 goals as Ivybridge collected a welcome victory to maintain their promotion challenge in the East Division where they remain in third position, closing the gap on second placed Crediton, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Bridport.
Ivybridge are two points behind Crediton with a game in hand and, although they are eight points adrift of league leaders Okehampton, they have two games in hand while the two teams will meet in a crucial game at Erme Valley on Saturday December 17.
After a slow start against Torridgeside, Ivybridge took command with two goals from Ewing in the 20th and 25th minutes. But the home side hit back with a strike from George Folland on the stroke of half-time.
Torridgeside drew level with a goal by Billy Tubb five minutes after the restart, but Ivybridge finished strongly with further goals from Ewing in the 60th and 70th minutes while midfielder Owen Raven rounded off an impressive display with his first goal of the season ten minutes from the end.
Credit was also due to the attacking play of Lewis Dickson, who had a hand in a couple of the goals.
Overall, it was an encouraging performance by Ivybridge, who had a number of players ruled out.
Jake Lane and Fletcher Williams were suspended while Sam Ryan and Jacob Bowker were injured. Also missing were skipper Scott Pocock (unavailable) and winger Luke Forward (ill).
On a positive note, striker Connor Rush came on as substitute for the final 15 minutes for his first action since suffering a knee injury during a pre-season friendly at Saltash in July.
Manager Darren Stewart said: “I was really delighted with the response from the players.
“We have now scored 10 goals in our last two matches and they have all come from open play. Our win at Torridgeside was thanks to a couple of excellent 20-minute spells and we must now look for more consistency over 90 minutes.”
Stewart warns that his side now face a couple of testing games as they travel to improving Bridport on Saturday before the top of table clash at home to Okehampton.
