LEAGUE ONE Plymouth Argyle 2 Derby County 1

argyle logo2013Plymouth Argyle came back from 1-0 down at half time to beat promotion rivals Derby County 2-1 at Home Park and go level on 74 points with League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

County opened the scoring after as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing beat the offside trap to race through on to David McGoldrick’s spectacular overhead kick pass near the halfway line.

The striker’s first shot was deflected by keeper Callum Burton’s feet but Mendez-Laing reacted well to slot home.

Argyle levelled following a flowing move started by Jay Matete's powerful defence-splitting 59th minute run and finished by Callum Wright, with a goal-bound shot which deflected up and over Joe Wildsmith into the far corner off defender Eiran Cashin.

Argyle surged ahead in the 70th minute as Hardie took his goal tally to 17 for the season converting from the spot following a foul on Finn Azaz.

The home side looked a completely different proposition in the second half following the introduction of goal scorer Wright and Matete.

In the 90th minute Hardie came close to increasing his tally and Argyle’s lead with a thumping strike that flew just over the upright.

Steven Schumacher's greens have now won 16 of their 18 home league games, drawing one and losing just once.
