WESTERN PREM Helston Athletic 1 Ivybridge Town 2

Goals from striker Kai Burrell enabled Ivybridge Town to return to winning ways, 2-1 at Helston Athletic last night.

Three points from the evening trip to West Cornwall enabled Ivybridge to climb back to a mid-table Western Premier position following a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Wellington on November 15.

Ivybridge are now 11th on 23 points, three behind 10th placed Helston with a game in hand.

Ivybridge joint managers Ben Washam and Brad Gargett were delighted with the result. Washam said: “It was a deserved win in a well contested game with the players listening to our game plan.”

Ivybridge took the lead on the half hour through Burrell and held the 1-0 advantage at the interval with goalkeeper Jason Peters making a couple of good saves.

Burrell extended the Ivybridge lead in the 65th minute when he scored his ninth goal of the season from an opportunity created by Kaycee Ogwu.

Helston's Tom Hands scored with a 75th minute diving header but Ivybridge held on to win with James Forrest and Joe Cook producing some impressive defensive work.

Ivybridge are set to return to home league action on Saturday against Shepton Mallet at Erme Valley (1500ko).

Rain washed out the Ivies scheduled home match against Oldland Abbotonians last Saturday.

Washam says: “We are looking forward to Saturday and hope to get the game on so we can build on the win at Helston.”
