TORQUAY TARGET TOP THREE

Ling said: “We will be aiming as high as we can and that means top three.

“I am not saying we are going to get into the top three but if we aim top three and end up in the play offs that can be our safety net.”

United central defender Mark Ellis powered home a 75th minute header from Kevin Nicholson’s corner to sweep the Gulls up to fifth, five points behind leaders Cheltenham following Saturday's 1-0 Plainmoor win over Northampton.

Ling admits he will be happy when tomorrow’s transfer deadline passes, adding: “We are right in amongst it now and with the run we are on – one defeat in 14 – we shouldn’t be looking to sell our players but sometimes as club the size we are, you have no choice in the matter.

“I would love to turn the phone off now until Tuesday night and then when I turn it back on use it to top ourselves up with a loan signing and move on.”

Meanwhile matchwinner Ellis (pictured by pinnacle) has now scored three goals in four games.
