Four Torquay United players are included in the 2012 Professional Footballers’ Association League Two team of the year, announced last night at the annual awards ceremony in London.
Gulls goalkeeper Robert (Bobby) Olejnik, left back Kevin Nicholson, playmaker Eunan O’Kane and 13-goal midfield captain Lee Mansell are in the divisional team of the year, recognised by their fellow professionals.
Austrian Olejnik, 25, and Nicholson, 31, have been part of a defence that has set a new club record of 20 clean sheets in a season while 29-year-old skipper Mansell (pictured) - United’s longest serving player in the current promotion-chasing squad - has experienced his best season in front of goal.
Talented Irish midfielder O’Kane, 21, is widely recognised as one of League Two’s up-and-coming pass masters.
With two regular season games remaining United are fourth in the table, a point behind third placed Crawley ahead of Saturday's home game against play-off chasing Crewe Alexandra at Plainmoor (1500).
Play-off chasing Cheltenham Town midfielder Marlon Pack, 21, is also named in the League 2 team of the year.
PFA divisional League Two team Robert Olejnik (Torquay), Paul Caddis (Swindon), Kyle McFadzean (Crawley), Ian Sharps (Shrewsbury), Kevin Nicholson (Torquay), Matt Ritchie (Swindon), Marlon Pack (Cheltenham), Eunan O'Kane (Torquay), Lee Mansell (Torquay), Izale McLeod (Barnet), Tyrone Barnett (Crawley).
• Martin Ling's Gulls visit relegation haunted Hereford United on the last day of the season, May 5.
