EXETER CITY FC make double swoop for attackers

Experienced winger Yanic Wildschut has joined League One Yanic W Exeter CityExeter City on a short term deal until January 2024.

The Dutchman, who plays internationally for Suriname through descent, strengthens Gary Caldwell attacking options ahead of today's game with Cheltenham Town at St James Park (1500ko). 

Born in Amsterdam, the Ajax youth academy product started his professional career at PEC Zwolle, before turning out for VVV-Venlo, Heerenveen and ADO Den Haag before moving to England to join Middlesbrough in 2014.

After making 13 appearances in his first season on Teesside, Wildschut was loaned to Wigan Athletic where he played under Gary Caldwell, before City's current boss signed him for a fee of £1m. After a sterling 2015-16 season, he was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year in a promotion winning season for the Latics. 

He was snapped up by Norwich for a fee of £7m in January 2017, before loan spells at Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers.

He moved to Israel to join Maccabi Haifa, making over 50 appearances in the Israeli Premier League, before a move to Bulgaria followed, making over 30 appearances for CSKA Sofia where his achievements included scoring against Roma in the UEFA Conference League. 

Wildschut returned to England last summer, joining Oxford United, though injury prevented him making i his debut until December. He made 23 appearances for the U's in total, scoring once. 

City have also signed Caleb Watts on a short-term deal until January 2024.

Operating primarily as an attacking midfielder, the 21 year old joins the club as a free agent having left Southampton at the end of last season. 

Watts signed a professional contract in 2019 and made three Premier League appearances for the Saints, as well as his debut in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town.

He joined Crawley Town on loan in January 2022 but his time at the Red Devils was cut short after just 18 minutes of play following a hamstring injury which forced his return to Southampton. He then joined Morecambe for the 2022-23 season, making 30 appearances and scoring three goals. 

Essex born Watts is also an Australian under-23 international, featuring for the 'Olyroos' at Tokyo 2020, featuring in all three of their group stage matches.
