AMATEUR GOLF Somerset seek to bounce back at Trevose

The three-day four counties English Men’s County Championship teed off yesterday at Trevose Golf & Country Club on the North Cornwall coast.
Northumberland, Hampshire and Staffordshire have won the English County Finals before while Justin Lane’s South West champions Somerset target their first win.
Top amateur matchplay action will unfold on the Championship Course at Trevose, ranked as one of the top links in the British Isles.
The county teams include some of England’s finest amateur golfers. Somerset boast French Open winner Josh Hilleard, boy international Tom Plumb and Dutch Junior Open winner Tom Sloman.
Hampshire incorporating the Channel Islands and Isle of Wight feature British mid-amateur champion Matt Willcox and past English mid-amateur winner Martin Young.
Somerset lost 5-4 to Hampshire in match one with Staffordshire beating Northumberland 6-3 in match two.
Hampshire play Northumberland today (0800) and Staffordshire meet Somerset (0824). The round robin completes on Sunday.
