Goals from Slough’s Ashleigh Ball – whose hometown is Cheltenham – and Welsh ace Sarah Thomas enabled team GB to beat Germany 2-0 in last night’s semi-final in Rosario, Argentina.

GB – including Clifton midfielder Georgie Twigg – now face hosts Argentina in tonight’s final (2300 GMT).

Argentina avenged last year’s penalty shoot-out final defeat by Netherlands in Amsterdam by beating them in last night's Rosario semi final showdown after another nail biting penalty shoot-out.

In Britain’s win, University of Exeter sports science graduate and sports scholar Thomas - from Merthyr Tydfil - opened the scoring from a 13th minute penalty corner to make it 1-0 at half time before Ball crashed in a 39th minute second, following another penalty corner.
