Regional hockey leagues have informed members clubs that new International Hockey Federation (FIH) rules will not be implemented mid-season.
The men's West of England & South Wales Hockey League issued a statement saying: “In recent weeks, the FIH has announced some changes to the Rules of Hockey with effect from 1st January 2015.
“However both England Hockey and Hockey Wales have stated these changes will NOT be implemented in the regional domestic leagues mid-season so it’s carry on as normal for the rest of the season.”
The West Clubs Women’s Hockey League issued a similar statement.
Umpire and WOESWHL chairman Terry Cook confirmed his league’s statement saying: “It’s common sense for us not to look at any new rule changes until the end of the season.”
England Wales and Hockey Wales are the sport’s national governing bodies.
The first full programme of men’s league fixtures takes place over the weekend beginning Saturday January 17, with a handful of games – including the Premiership match between Bristol’s Robinsons and Cheltenham A - on Sunday January 18.
The first full programme of women's regional league fixtures is also on Saturday January 17.
Women’s national league action resumes on Saturday January 31 when Bristol based Clifton Ladies host Reading in the Investec Women’s Premier Division at the University of Bristol’s Coombe Dingle Sports Complex.
