The national England Hockey League started last weekend - with Premier Division games - as did the regional West Clubs Women’s Hockey League.
From today all the leagues will be up and running with 135 fixtures in the men’s regional league this weekend and 133 women’s regional league fixtures (if my counting is correct).
It's not just the men's regional league that starts today as there will be a full programme of EHL matches this weekend with women and men's conference games added to the national mix.
For the region's top teams there's all to play for this season as the England Hockey League structure will undergo a massive end of term overhaul, enabling more teams than ever to win promotion to the 2019/2020 national game.
The West's best two teams - Clifton Robinsons womens 1s and Exeter University mens 1s - visit defending champions Surbiton today.
Clifton start at 1600, Exeter at 1800.
Both have their work cut-out.
