SCHOOLS RUGBY Spiers try crowns King's win

NatWest Schools Cup logoKing's College, Taunton secured their place in the Under 18 NatWest Schools Cup fifth round thanks to Zach Spiers' winning, last-minute try to secure a 22-19 win over Blundell’s School.

The second half was a tight, anxious affair as both packs battled for supremacy. Number eight James Turpin led from the front for King's College while Liam Redrup added a second try to make it 19-15.

King's over turned a last minute Blundell’s lineout enabling tight head prop Spiers to power over the try line. Will Potter converted to give King's a dramatic win, setting up a home South West B tie against Devon's Bicton College.

Bath's Beechen Cliff School enjoyed a narrow 14-10 success at North Bristol Post 16 Centre, Dauntsey’s School beat Sheldon School 44-24 while Sherborne School progressed with a walkover against St Peter’s Catholic School, Bournemouth.

Stowe School continued their impressive form as tries from Max Marston and Jack Strong and two conversions from George Silk enabled them to beat Aylesbury Grammar School 14-3.

Stowe’s fifth round opponents, St Peter's School, Gloucester beat Crypt Grammar School 17-8 thanks to tries from Robson Skipsey and a conversion and penalty from George Clair.

In South West B, Reading Blue Coat School beat Kennet School 50-0, with Matt Outram notching up four tries in the process. A trip to RGS High Wycombe awaits Reading after RGS defeated Windsor Boys High School 62-0.

Portsmouth Grammar School defeated local rivals Churches College 36-20, while Bristol's Colston's School defeated Chew Valley 68-0 to set up a testing fifth round tie at Gloucester's Sir Thomas Rich's School, 39-15 victors at Dean Close School.

Truro School are already through to round six following an away walkover at Exeter School.

• In the U18 Vase, Royal Latin beat Katherine Lady Berkeley’s School 12-15 and Pangbourne College enjoyed a 33-12 win over Reading School.
