EXETER CHIEFS quartet in England squad to face Ireland

England rugby logoFour Exeter Chiefs are named in England's squad to face defending champions Ireland in their Six Nations opener in Dublin on Saturday (1645ko).

Cornwall's British Lion Jack Nowell wings in to the starting XV along with Plymouth-born Chiefs team-mate Henry Slade, who starts Saturday's eagerly-anticipated Lansdowne Road clash at outside centre.

Exeter front row forwards Luke Cowan-Dickie - also from Cornwall - and Harry Williams start on the bench.

Slade attended and represented Plymouth College in the city of his birth while fellow 25-year-old Nowell hails from Cornish fishing port Newlyn. Nowell claims his 30th England cap when he starts on Saturday.

England head coach Eddie Jones said: “I think it is quite clear to beat Ireland you have to beat them in the contest area. They are very good at the breakdown and in the air. Both those areas are a priority for us. Traditionally England and Ireland games are always very close, they are tough affairs, there is a lot of emotion in the games so our ability to finish the game strongly is going to be vital.

“It is well documented no one thinks we can win but I can tell you everyone inside our camp believes we can win. We are hugely looking forward to the weekend.”
