KICKING OFF Free way to promote your rugby club

rugby is backWe are halfway through the league season with rugby union set to take centre stage again with next month's Six Nations, capturing the media spotlight and the sporting public's imagination.

Now is as good a time as any to promote your rugby club and possibly attract new players, returning players or potential supporters/volunteers/sponsors.

South West Sports News prides itself in offering dedicated fixtures pages to promote your matches - men, women and colts - with the added bonus of adding your club venue and kick off time (What better way to promote your match?)

Yet, sadly, many clubs don’t use this FREE FIXTURES SERVICE to let people know what time their match kicks off.

It’s also presumptuous to believe people new to club rugby will know where your team is based – the names don’t always give a clue: Pirates Amateurs, Stothert & Pitt, Wessex RFC spring immediately to mind and there are many, many more.

We have lost count of the number of times a club website shows one kick off time for a fixture and the club twitter account another.

“People know we kick off all our home games at 2.30” opined one indignant club secretary who then courteously called us back to say actually, on this occasion “kick off has been switched to three.”

We have attended rugby meetings where an overriding concern from all is the dreaded drop-off in players, props, referees, coaches, supporters and "people staying in the game".

With men and women's leagues up and running we - at South West Sports News - are playing a part in helping promote a sport we love.

If you are reading this then we are sure you love rugby, so - please - play a simple part... pass on your confirmed kick off time!

We'll do the rest.

• stay #aheadofthegame confirm KO @swsportsnews by Friday or preferably before :)
