CORNWALL GAIN HOME QUARTER-FINAL ADVANTAGE

cornwall cricket crestCornwall’s cricketers are through to the Minor Counties Knock Out Cup quarter finals following yesterday's thrilling three-wicket win over Hertfordshire at North Mymms.

The quarter final will be played at Truro Cricket Club on Sunday June 17 but Cornwall will not know their opponents until the conclusion of MCCA Trophy group games next weekend.

Hertfordshire made 243 for 4 in their 50 overs with two wickets for Cornwall skipper Tom Sharp.

Cornwall got off to a fine start with David Roberts making 56 and Matt Robins 59. Truro's Sharp made 62 but was dismissed with eight balls remaining.

With six runs needed of the last three balls Werrington's Alex Smeeth hit a two and a boundary to snatch victory off the penultimate ball.

• In the Kingfisher Beer Cup Grampound Road beat Cornwood by eight wickets and Falmouth won at Werrington by three.
