South West Sports News is 12 years old today.Given the current climate now is not a time for celebration but I will feel a glowing sense of pride today as Deb and I go out for our daily exercise/walk.
I don't do heroes or egos so it's making me wince to write about myself but I do realise what South West Sports News - as a minor league team - has achieved and it's akin to a major giant-killing upset over and again, day by day, season by season, year upon year.
Just to be here today is an achievement, our 12th annual "cup final" victory.
Today won't be much different to most days as I will also pinch myself - it is the first day of the month - as I am living a sports dream. Thanks to all of you.
Every day I reflect on the truly amazing people who have supported South West Sports News, some of whom were around a year or more before we kicked off on April 1, 2008.
Without family and friends I would not be writing this wee thank you and it would not be appearing on the SWSN front page, our free-to-visit all-weather Home Ground.
We haven't physically moved mountains to get here but like many with a dream we have had to make sacrifices... and moved house so South West Sports News could reach year 10.
That was over three years ago and despite the lack of support from any Government funded body - Sport England or our local council - we have had incredible support from the regional sports, educational and business community.
Like any grassroots community sports team we would not be here without advertisers/sponsors.
So thank you Verde Recreo, Plymouth College, Plymouth Marjon University, Devon Hockey, Hyde Park Hair Shop, Black Tor Brewery, Good Coffee Headquarters Plymouth, Gingerweb, Bowood Park Golf Club, Brean Golf Club, Launceston Golf Club, Okehampton Golf Club, Royal North Devon Golf Club, Saunton Golf Club, Sidmouth Golf Club, Staddon Heights Golf Club, Stover Golf Club, Tehidy Park Golf Club, Thurlestone Golf Club, Whitsand Bay Golf Club, Yelverton Golf Club and anyone else who has advertised with South West Sports News over the past 12 years.
