CHAMPIONS! PLYMOUTH LEANDER TOP ARENA LEAGUE

Plymouyth Leander swim team logoPlymouth Leander Swimming are club champions of England & Wales for the fourth time in five years after dominating the 43rd National Arena League Final in Sheffield.

From the outset Leander – coached by Jon Rudd – set the pace in the pool and eventually won 22 of the 50 events breaking eight meet records in the process.

Commonwealth Games silver medallist Antony James - pictured in the South West Sports News slideshow above - led the charge with a new meet male open 100m butterfly best of 53.24 seconds.

Others to set new standards at the Sheffield long course meet were
- Jack Smith (male 15 years 100m freestyle) 52.91
- Ruta Meilutyte (female 15 years 100m freestyle) 56.06
- Male open 300m freestyle relay (Antony James, Joe Patching, Aaron Rickhuss, James Burden, James Young, Ben Proud)
- Female 11 years 200m freestyle relay (Tegan Drew, Hannah Chatfield, Emma De Jager, Emma England)
- Female 15 years 200m medley relay (Grace Vertigans, Jade Scott, Lara Cosford, Ruta Meilutyte)
- Female Open 200m medley relay (Rebecca Pye, Ruta Meilutyte, Sian Harkin, Emma Wilkins)
- Female Open 300m freestyle relay (Emma Wilkins, Stephanie Bremner, Sian Harkin, Grace Vertigans, Laura Vertigans, Ruta Meilutyte)

Plymouth won eight age group Top Athlete Awards through Tegan Drew, Dani Baker, Ruta Meilutyte and Jack Smith while Meilutyte claimed the top overall Female Athlete award.
