Wiltshire, who yesterday qualified for the English County Finals with the best team score from the 36 holes strokeplay score from the 2011 South Western Counties Amateur Championship at Saunton Golf Club, top the Matchplay Shield leaderboard at the start of day three.
Having rallied to overcome Gloucestershire on day one, Wiltshire beat Cornwall 8 ½ - 5 on day two having built up a 5-3 mid-match singles lead mid-match.

The 2011 South Western Counties Golf Association Championship Week is underway and host county Devon top the leaderboard after day one at Saunton.
Neil Holland’s Devon teed off their Matchplay Shield defence by beating Somerset 8 ½ - 5 ½ in yesterday’s opening round, Wiltshire rallied to beat Gloucestershire 7 ½ - 6 ½ while Dorset also lifted their tails to draw 7-7 with Cornwall.

Five English players - including three amateur aces from the South West - have been included in the Great Britain & Ireland team to face America in this year's Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool on September 7-8. Harry Hall (West Cornwall, Cornwall), Thomas Plumb (Yeovil, Somerset) Tom Sloman (Taunton & Pickeridge, Somerset) Alex Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire, Yorkshire) and Conor Gough (Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire) have been listed in the team while Ben Schmidt (Rotherham, Yorkshire) and Ben Jones (Northamptonshire County, Northamptonshire) have been named as first and second reserves.

Today Minchinhampton Golf Club, near Stroud, stages the 36 holes South West Counties individual and team strokeplay championships over 36 holes, weather-permitting.The Gloucestershire golf club is stage for this week's annual South West men's amateur golf championships and as such, and as is traditional on a Tuesday, also stages today's individual competition and the team event, which acts as the English County Finals regional qualifier.

Five South West amateur aces are among the 11 selected to represent England in next week’s men’s Home Internationals at Conwy Golf Club in Wales.The team meet Ireland, Scotland and Wales next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as they bid to regain the Raymond Trophy, last won by England at Ganton, Yorkshire, in 2013.
