On a soggy first day of the NCCA Cluberly Championship all eight opening matches were rain-affected.

Western Division champions Berkshire were frustrated by a second wicket stand of 173 between Devon’s Elliot Hamilton and Matt Thompson at Wargrave, where played started after lunch.

COUNTIES CRICKET Dorset win National Counties Trophy

Dorset cricketDorset ended a 37-year wait for their second National Counties Trophy with an emphatic five wickets victory over Shropshire in the final at Chester Boughton Hall.

The win followed Dorset’s success back in 1988 and gave them the fourth piece of silverware in their history to go with National Counties Championship titles in 2000 and 2010.

COUNTIES CRICKET Cornwall top regional T20 group

Cornwall, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire and Staffordshire will host matches in the Super 12s stage of this season’s National Counties T20 after they topped their respective groups following a rain-affected final round of qualifying matches.

Cornwall, who were beaten finalists the last time the competition was played to a conclusion in 2023, banked their third group four double at St Austell where Will MacVicar was an influential figure with both bat and ball against Herefordshire.

COUNTIES CRICKET T20 record for Dorset openers

NCCA-Logo MasterDorset opening pair Finn Gordon and Will Tripcony rewrote a chapter of the county’s record books to end Cornwall’s unbeaten record in the National Counties T20 competition at Wimborne.

Gordon and Tripcony swept Dorset to a ten wickets win in the second match of the day as they chased down a target of 180 without losing a wicket.

COUNTIES CRICKET Dorset through to Trophy final

Dorset and Shropshire will meet in this season’s National Counties Trophy final after each ended a lengthy wait for an appearance in the showpiece event.

Dorset reached the final for the first time in 19 years after they beat Berkshire by six wickets in their semi-final at Finchampstead where they chased down a target 268 with three balls to spare.

COUNTIES CRICKET Unbeaten Cornwall win at the double

Cornwall and Suffolk boast the only unbeaten records after three rounds of the National Counties T20 competition with both completing second successive doubles.

In Group Four, Cornwall beat Wiltshire by five wickets then eight wickets at Werrington while Suffolk soared to the Group Two summit after back to back wins over Lincolnshire.
