Defending champions Staffordshire made the most of their reprieve after they were reinstated to the competition after Northumberland were docked points for a breach of regulations, by routing Hertfordshire then Norfolk to win Group Two which was played at Manor Park in Horsford.

COUNTIES CRICKET National Trophy opening round-up

Berkshire were indebted to the Lewis brother, Rhodri and Rhys, for helping them to start their defence of the National Counties Trophy with a hard-earned two wickets victory over Devon in their opening Group Three match at Wargrave.

Rhys made his maiden half-century for Berkshire opening the innings and Rhodri, the elder sibling, helped Berkshire to reach their target of 197 with almost four overs to spare.

COUNTIES CRICKET Cornwall top South West group

George Hargrave wrote another chapter in Shropshire’s record books with a spectacular century that clinched their place in the new Super 12 stage of the National Counties T20 competition.

Hargrave made 129 from just 44 balls to take Shropshire to an eight wickets victory over Wales NC in the second match of their double-header at St Asaph.

COUNTIES CRICKET Oxfordshire too strong for Wales

Oxfordshire benefited from their partnership with Sussex as they completed a double over Wales NC at Wormsley in the National Counties T20 competition.

Oxfordshire have a formal pathway programme with the first-class county which has already seen three of their talented youngsters – James Coles, Harrison Ward and Zach Lion-Cachet – earn professional contracts at Hove.

COUNTIES CRICKET Only 3 opening T20 matches beat rain

NCCA-Logo MasterHerefordshire made a flying start to the National Counties T20 competition by beating the weather and Wales NC twice in a rain-ravaged opening round of matches.

Play was possible at only three grounds – all of them in the South West – with 15 of the scheduled 20 matches being abandoned without a ball being bowled and another washed out at the halfway stage.
