COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy wins for Cornwall and Dorset

Defending champions Berkshire and Norfolk booked their places in the quarter-finals of this season’s National Counties Trophy with a round of group matches to play.

Berkshire made it three wins in a row with a five wickets victory over Oxfordshire at the Falkland club in Newbury in Group Three while Norfolk also ensured qualification for the last eight despite going down by 19 runs to Suffolk in their final Group Three match at Sudbury.

COUNTIES CRICKET Herefordshire showcase talent

Herefordshire batters Daniyal Khan and Ollie Walker took the opportunity to showcase their talent against a strong Gloucestershire attack at Eastnor.

Gloucestershire won both matches in the T20 double-header – the first of this season’s Showcase fixtures between the 20 National Counties and 18 first-class counties – but Khan and Walker ensured that a young Herefordshire side emerged with plenty of credit.

Redruth top the Bond Timber Cornwall Premier Division, but only three points cover the top four who all won on Saturday.

Redruth had a close call at Helston winning by one wicket with 13 balls to spare. In a tense finish, they lost three wickets getting the final two runs.

COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy century for Devon's Privett

NCCA-Logo MasterA maiden Trophy century from opener Ben Privett set up Devon’s 92 runs victory over Buckinghamshire at High Wycombe in Group Three.

Privett followed up his maiden half-century against Oxfordshire last week with 101 out of Devon’s 279 for eight and he received excellent support from Elliot Hamilton (31) and Charlie Sharland (43) in half-century partnerships for the first two wickets.

COUNTIES CRICKET Champions win, Wiltshire top group

NCCA-Logo MasterDefending champions Berkshire made it two wins from two with a 25 runs success against Cornwall at St Austell.

Johnny Connell continued his excellent start to the season by making 79 from 100 balls which, with useful runs from Charlie Dunnett (49), Archie Carter (30) and Rhys Lewis, took Berkshire to 244 all out.

CORNWALL CRICKET Bank Holiday weekend round-up

A frustrating Saturday saw the weather close in during the afternoon with only games in the east of the county able to complete.

Similarly, on Bank Holiday Monday, where 17 matches were rescheduled, several games in the west were again abandoned around tea time.
