Durant cricket championshipBerkshire dodged the rain to open their Durant Cricket National Counties Championship campaign with a ten wickets victory over Devon at Instow in Western Division One.

It was the only positive result in an opening round blighted by bad weather with no play possible on the final day of five of the eight matches.

Durant cricket championshipIn Western Division One, Berkshire were frustrated by rain which cut short proceedings at Instow after they had overtaken Devon’s 222 and built a lead of 61 when the weather closed in.

Calum Haggett prolonged Devon’s resistance in the morning with a half-century while former Cornwall seamer Tommy Sturgess finished with four for 48 in his first Championship bowl for Berkshire.

COUNTIES CRICKET Church century for Wiltshire

The first Championship century of the season was scored by Wiltshire’s Dylan Church in their Western Division Two match against Herefordshire at Corsham.

Church made a competition-best 116 and shared a third wicket partnership of 131 with his captain, Ed Young, and an opening stand of 82 with James Degg (38) but Wiltshire failed to capitalise and were dismissed for 331.

COUNTIES CRICKET Holders through to semi-finals

NCCA-Logo MasterHolders Berkshire moved to within a game of a fifth successive National Counties Trophy final by beating Dorset by six wickets in their quarter-final at Slough.

Berkshire, seeking to extend their record-breaking run in the competition to five successive titles, will now travel to play Cheshire, who beat Devon by 110 runs at Oxton, in the semi-finals on August 4.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon and Dorset quarter finalists

NCCA-Logo MasterDevon, Dorset, Cambridgeshire, Chesire, Lincolnshire and Suffolk secured their places in the quarter-finals of the National Counties Trophy on a dramatic final day of group matches.

Devon finished as runners-up in Group Three despite going down by seven runs to Cornwall at Cornwood.
