Torquay United target man Rene Howe scored again as Martin Ling’s Gulls beat Exeter City 3-0 at Plainmoor last night.
New signing Howe also scored in Saturday’s 2-0 pre-season win over Bristol City and has yet to play a full match for Ling’s new-look Yellows.
Fellow striker Billy Kee and latest squad addition Ian Morris – who teamed up with the Gulls on Monday – were also on target for United, who host Eddie Howe's Championship outfit Burnley on Saturday (Plainmoor 1500).
A crowd of 5,000-plus turned out to support goalkeeper Romain Larrieu’s testimonial and see Plymouth Argyle lose 1-0 to Neil Warnock’s Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers at Home Park.
Heidar Helguson headed the 86th minute Le Testimonial winner not long after a characteristic top drawer reflex save by French shot-stopper Larrieu that seemed destined to maintain a 0-0 score line as he somehow managed to deny Danny Shittu from Alejandro Faurlin's far post free kick.
Adie Britton's Bath City beat Bristol City 1-0 at Twerton Park thanks to a 53rd minute winner from former Robins winger Scott Murray.
Tonight Paul Buckle’s Bristol Rovers are back in action with a pre-season friendly at Weston-super-Mare (Woodspring Park, 7.45).
