Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams enjoyed a “perfect day” as his promoted Pilgrims claimed their first League One points of the season.
Adams said: “I am delighted to get the first win of the season and to score two very good goals through Jake Jervis.”
The striker put Plymouth 1-0 up on 54 minutes and then scored a superb second solo goal, firing home from 20 yards to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute.
Plymouth kept a clean sheet thanks to skipper Luke McCormick’s remarkable first half save and central defender Ryan Edwards off-the-line clearance when Charlton eventually beat Argyle's keeper.
Adams said: “Obviously I am pleased to win 2-0 against an excellent Charlton team, a team that will do very well season.
“The first goal was from a well worked corner, a great ball in from Graham Carey and Ryan Edwards knocking it down and Jake finishing it off.
“His second one reminds us how good a player Jake Jervis is, he takes the ball for a run and finished very well.
“Jake has done really well scoring goals. He’s a threat because of his pace but not only that because his goal scoring ability while through the two years I have been here has been excellent.
“I took him to my last club Ross County and was fortunate enough to get him to come here as well.
“The all-round performance was excellent. The players sat in, we sat deep and allowed Charlton to have the ball in areas we didn’t think they were going to trouble us.
“Luke McCormick made an outstanding save in the first half and all-in-all it was a perfect day for us.”
