Hot shot Rikki Shepherd helped himself to four more goals as Millbrook punished rock bottom Bridport with a 12-goal Western Premier hammering at St Mary’s Field on Saturday.

Skipper Tom Payne and Josh Toulson weighed in with hat-tricks and other goals came from Jason Richards and Dave Youldon.

It is believed to be Bridport’s biggest defeat in 30 years, while for Millbrook it is definitely their record win in the Western League, as they are only halfway through their first season at this level.

Millbrook boss Macca Brown said: “We are just delighted with another three points to be honest, we enjoy every point we pick up, especially on the road so that was always the main objective at Bridport.

“We know that Bridport have played some really good sides recently, and have received some heavy defeats so we obviously targeted three points but when the teams towards the top region of the league are scoring five or six goals against them, for us we genuinely would have taken any kind of win.

“We had a tough game against them at Jenkins Park earlier in the season which we eventually won 4-0, but that was after some late goals which I believe is the pattern of most of Bridport’s games.

“So to score 12 goals is unbelievable and full credit to the lads because no other team has done that to them this season.

“We just never took our foot off the gas, it was a ruthless 90 minutes performance where we played so really good football and created lots of chances.

“Bridport have some good players, their left winger was a real threat, he actually played right back against us earlier in the season and was excellent then as well, and he did brilliantly for their equaliser.

“Then at 1-1 after 15 minutes or so you’re thinking this looks like it’s going to be a real game, as they had one or two openings but we then just went up a level.

“They went toe to toe with us and maybe adopting a more defensive game plan and not giving so much space away would have made it tougher, but it’s not for me to say how they should approach games and we can only focus on us, and that’s exactly what we did.

“December has been a tough month, three consecutive long away trips which demands great commitment from the players and supporters of the club who are all out the door at 9am and not home till 9pm.

“But they’ve got their rewards with three wins from three which makes for a good Christmas.”

Toulson gave the visitors a third minute lead after good work by Shepherd, and even the home fans were stunned in the ninth minute when a cross from the left by Ryley Greenwood-Neate was rammed home by the advancing Antony Carlile to equalise.

It was the Bees’ first goal for exactly three months – and the first league goal Millbrook had conceded in 717 minutes... stretching back to October 16.

In the following 20 minutes Bridport’s Dan Baggs’ shot was blocked by Millbrook goalkeeper Chris Wearing’s legs and Shepherd had a shot saved after a 20-yard run on goal. 

Richards made it 2-1 to Millbrook in the 29th minute with a shot from 20 yards and two minutes later Payne benefited from a big deflection to make it 3-1 from 12 yards.

Then two goals in the final four minutes of the half sent Millbrook in at the break with a 5-1 lead.

Payne converted a 41st minute penalty and he completed a 12-minute hat-trick two minutes later, direct from a corner.

Shepherd opened his account eight minutes into the second half and Toulson added his second and Millbrook’s seventh goal on the hour.

Toulson then scored the goal of the game in the 65th minute, superbly volleying the ball home as it approached him from a free kick.

Shepherd made it 9-1 after 69 minutes before Youldon completed his hat-trick five minutes later.

Shepherd’s hat-trick was secured in the 79th minute before he scored his fourth and Millbrook’s 12th three minutes later to complete the rout.
