FA CUP first round Torquay United 2 Derby County 2

FA CupNational League basement side Torquay United forced an FA Cup replay at League One high flyers Derby County following a late leveller - almost the last kick of the tie.

Will Goodwin swooped to score United’s equaliser in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time following a goalmouth scramble as the Gulls laid siege to 10-man County’s goal.

There was barely time to restart before the sound of referee David Rock whistling for full time, to spark celebrations for Yellows fans at Plainmoor.

Derby’s first half pressure told on 27 minutes when they took the lead in front of their fans in away end.

A swift move down the right resulted in Nathaniel Mendez-Laing releasing County skipper Max Bird and his pacy cross was converted at the near-post by Will Osula.

Striker Osula doubled his and County’s tally in the 47th minute, finishing off his drive into the left hand side of the box with an unstoppable low drive off the wet surface and past Mark Halstead.

United pulled a goal back when County defender Eiran Cashin was sent off for a 55th minute foul on Will Goodwin and home skipper Asa Hall converted from the 56th minute penalty.

Danger man Mendez-Laing gave United an early warning of what to expect when he accelerated down the right and crossed for Lewis Dobbin to fire just over on four minutes.

Mendez-Laing came within a whisker of scoring in the 33rd minute with a scorching shot that flew just over.

For all County's first half dominance the tie turned on it's head after County scored as United - with nothing to lose and everything to gain - went on the attack and skipper Hall might easily have bagged more than the one goal.
