FA VASE Wembley dream starts tonight in Swindon

fa vaselogoFor 90 minutes – at least - over the next three days and 268 first qualifying round FA Vase ties players from 536 non-League clubs will be able to dream a little.

In total there are 667 clubs from Steps 5-7 of the National League System entered in the Vase this season.

Two of those teams will feature in the Sunday May 17 non-League finals day at Wembley.

The first qualifying round kicks off regionally tonight in Swindon where New College Academy FC host Royal Wootton Bassett and Shrivenham face Milton United from Oxfordshire. All four compete in the Hellenic League.

Tomorrow they will be joined by 468 teams with the same dream: of walking out at Wembley next May.

There will be a further 21 Sunday ties  - including Chipping Sodbury Town at Wokingham & Emmbrook - as non-League's top grassroots knockout competition kicks off.

Winning clubs progress to the second qualifying round on Saturday September 14.

Steve Massey's South West Peninsula Premier West side Helston Athletic begin their road to Wembley journey with a cross-region road trip to promoted Western Premier outfit Keynsham Town. A round trip of some 375 miles means Massey has opted for an overnight stay ahead of tomorrow's tie.

Another side making a lengthy road trip are Helston's Peninsula Prem West rivals Falmouth, who visit Bristol Telephones. Andrew Westgarth's amber and blacks - and supporters - will make a round trip of 352 miles from Cornwall to Bristol and back.
