CORNWALL SENIOR CUP quarter final round-up

Cornwall FA shield 200South East Cornwall will be represented by three teams in the Cornwall Senior Cup semi-finals after wins for Torpoint Athletic, Saltash United and Millbrook in Saturday’s last eight ties.

Wadebridge Town are the only ‘out of area’ semi-finalists after seeing off St Blazey at Bodieve.

Curtis Damerell was the hero as Torpoint pulled off the result of the day with a 1-0 win at Mousehole.

Damerell’s spectacular overhead kick in the second half secured the tie after Jason Peters’ first half goalkeeping master class kept out a rampant home side.

Sam Hughes hit two second half goals as Saltash saw off holders Falmouth in a repeat of last season’s final. The Ashes will now be hot favourites to lift the trophy on Easter Monday.

Millbrook can’t remember the last time they were in the Senior Cup semi-finals but they are there on merit after seeing off Liskeard Athletic at Jenkins Park.

A 16th minute free kick from Laurence Murray set them on their way and victory was assured when Rikki Shepherd’s 83rd minute penalty just beat Blues keeper Ollie Chenoweth.

At one stage in the second half Liskeard were down to nine men, with midfield man Macauley Thorp and captain Jack Podmore sin-binned. Podmore later saw red.

Jack Mackenzie gave Wadebridge the perfect start against Blazey with a 12th minute goal and after the visitors had Ray Card sent off in the 55th minute, the Bridgers doubled their lead seven minutes later through Matt Lloyd.

Jordan Walton pulled a goal back 12 minutes from time but it was not enough.

The Senior Cup semi-finals draw is tomorrow at 1800. Ties are due to be played in the first week of March.
