FA VASE Bitton and Parkway drawn away in 1/4 finals

Lee Hobbs courtesy Dave CrawfordBitton AFC and Plymouth Parkway were both kept apart in today's FA Vase quarter finals draw.

That was the plus side for the Western League Premier Division rivals and non-League South West football fans.

Both community clubs now face long "last eight" road trips in their quest to take another step closer to Wembley and the May 17 Vase final.

No-one said it would be easy and it never is when you are through to the final stages of a national knockout competition. Parkway face an 812-mile round trip to Hebburn.

Dan Langdon's Bitton will travel to Norfolk to play 2010 finalists Wroxham whose Saturday matchwinner was former Norwich City striker Grant Holt.

Holt - now 38 - and Shaun Taylor scored as the Yachtsmen overcame Vase favourites Stowmarket Town 2-0 in front of over 1,000 at Trafford Park, eight miles north east of Norwich.

Bitton's two-goal Saturday matchwinner was Josh Egan as the Ton beat Sutton Common Rovers 2-1 at home to set up a 400-mile plus round trip to Norfolk on February 29.

Lee Hobbs' Parkway face a round trip of almost twice that distance to Tyne & Wear to play Northern Counties high flyers Hebburn Town.

Parkway overcame the Hornets' Northern Counties Division One rivals West Auckland Town 2-1 at Bolitho Park on Saturday, rallying from 1-0 down to win 2-1 with goals either side of half time by Rob Farkins and matchwinner Billy Palfrey in front of 670-plus.

Hebburn's Robbie Spence scored their 117th minute extra time winner at Longridge Town as the Hornets edged through to the last eight for the first time.

Bitton, Hebburn and Parkway are all through to the quarter final stage for the first time in their history.

Parkway fans will note Hebburn are second in their league, West Auckland ninth.

Form goes out the window when a Wembley final beckons, three games away...
