SW GOLF Cornwall's Boyd leads England's Euro bid

Truro's English amateur champion Sarah Jane-Boyd courtesy EnglandGolfCornwall amateur ace Sarah-Jane Boyd will lead England Golf’s bid for women’s glory at the European Nations Championship starting in Spain next Wednesday.

English amateur champion Boyd, from Truro, Hertfordshire’s Gabriella Cowley, runner-up in the recent Portugese International Ladies Championship, and Surrey’s Annabel Dimmock, winner of the Jones-Doherty Cup in the USA, represent England Women at Sotogrande from March 5-8.

The European Nations Championship is contested over 72 holes of stroke play, with the best two cards each day in in the women’s competition counting towards the team total.

An individual competition runs simultaneously with the Nations Championship.

Boyd is the senior member of the England women’s trio at 22 years old and was 2012 British stroke play champion, qualifying to play in last year’s Women’s British Open.

The four times Cornish ladies champion was also runner-up in last year’s England Golf women’s order of merit and finished joint 19th in last month’s Portugese International Ladies Championship at Montado.

Hanbury Manor’s Cowley and Wentworth’s Dimmock are both talented 17-year-old golfers.

Cowley won the 2013 England Golf girls’ order of merit, a year when her achievements included qualifying for the Women’s British Open, winning the Critchley Salver and helping England to retain their crown at the Girls’ Home Internationals.

Dimmock has just completed a successful trip to the USA for the Orange Blossom Tour where she won the matchplay Jones-Doherty Cup and was runner-up in the South Atlantic women’s amateur. She was runner-up in the 2013 English girls’ championship and, like Cowley, played in both the girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals teams.
