WOMENS CONFERENCE WEST ROUND-UP

investec women's hockey league logoGloucester City, Firebrands and Swansea profited from back to back Women’s Conference West wins.

Swansea’s double keeps them within a point of leaders Buckingham, Gloucester moved up to third while Brands – who have a games in hand on most of their rivals – soared up to fifth, moving four points clear of sixth placed Barnes Hounslow Ealing.

Emma Done (14 ps) and Lauran Bevan (25) scored for City as they beat top four rivals Isca University 2-1. Heidi Baber (58) replied for Isca.

Bevan scored again as Gloucester won 2-0 at BHE on Sunday, seconds after Charlotte Lawley had fired them ahead from a penalty corner.

Brands began the weekend with a 4-0 home win over Team Bath Buccaneers and goals for Kathryn Bache (24pc, 66pc), Sian French (28) and Alex Thomas (64). On Sunday they beat Exe – who had lost 2-0 at Trojans – by the same score after goals by Georgie Field (57ps) and Stephanie Kinder (65).

Swansea’s Sophie Clayton (21pc) and Lisa Daley (61) sealed a 2-1 Saturday win at BHE while Kirsty Hoskins scored the 26th minute winner in a 1-0 win at Bath.

Conference West top scorer Claire Thomas (15, 43) took her tally to 15 with two goals in Isca’s 3-1 win at Staines, where Amy Sheehan claimed her sixth of the season in the 58th minute.
