England Men's Hokcey League logoThe day all national league men’s hockey fans have been waiting for is finally here!

The 2017-18 Men’s Conference West season resumes today with the first England Men’s Hockey League matches of 2018.

Better still three of the five free to see/ support Conference West games are at South West hockey hubs.

Cheltenham host Team Bath Buccaneers at Cheltenham College at 1230, Bristol’s Clifton Robinsons face Fareham at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex at 1300 and Isca are at home to second placed Cardiff & Met at University of Exeter Sports Park (1400).

The other two big games are out of the region.

Leaders University of Exeter travel to fourth placed Havant for a 1400 start.

Olton & West Warwicks are at third placed University of Birmingham (1430) but it’s at Havant where Exeter's students will seek to get back on the winning track following their surprise 3-2 home defeat by their Birmingham counterparts in the 10th and final round of 2017 matches at the end of November.

Exeter’s defeat and perennial promotion favourites Cardiff & Met’s return to championship-winning form means Met have closed the gap to just three points with eight games to play.

The date to note on your hockey diary is Sunday March 18 when Cardiff & Met return to the University of Exeter Sports Park, to play the students.

Today Met meet an Isca side seeking to climb away from the basement and leapfrog fourth from bottom Fareham as soon as possible and with a little help from their Exeter rivals.

It all makes for fascinating viewing, especially as Matt Plimmer's Clifton Robbies will give their all to make sure their national league stay lasts longer than one season.
