REGIONAL BASEBALL is back - new season underway

NilsEliasson BristolBadgers baseballThe new domestic baseball season has started across the region.

Baseball returned to Bristol as the city’s club three teams began their 2019 campaign.

Bristol Badgers hosted Bournemouth Bears in a British Baseball Federation (BBF) AA South double header at Somerdale Pavilion in Keynsham.

The Bristol Bats started their South West Baseball League (SWBL) campaign with a win over Weston Jets.

The club’s newest team Bristol Buccaneers won in Wales against Cardiff Merlins, also making their SWBL debut.

Before the first pitch Bristol Baseball club chairman Richard Evans said: “This is going to be a really exciting season for all our teams.

“We have recruited really well during the off-season and all our new players are showing great promise. We will be aiming to bring back the trophies that are on offer.”

The region's top team Bristol Badgers will be up against teams from Brighton, Guildford, Herts and Richmond as well as Bournemouth during the regular season.

The Bats and the Buccaneers are in the same north SWBL division for the first half of 2019 and will resurrect an inter-club game as well as taking on Cardiff and Weston.

In the second half of the SWBL season, teams will be divided into two divisions based on their record in the first half.

Spectators are welcome to all regional baseball games and entry is free to all
