The Durant Cricket National Counties Championship is set for an exciting end to the regular season with five of the six main issues still to be resolved going into this weekend’s final round of matches.  

Only the Western Division Two title, which has already been won by Cornwall to secure promotion to the top-flight next season, has been settled with three counties still in the running for each of the Eastern Division One and Two and Western Division One titles.

Nearly 800 athletes from 39 different countries will be heading to the University of Bath this week ahead of the eagerly-awaited 2023 UIPM Laser-Run and Pentathlon World Championships.

Most of the 191 athletes contesting the Pentathlon championships, from August 22-28, will be staying in accommodation on campus, just a few minutes’ walk from the main competition arena at the Team Bath Sports Training Village.

Cornwall clinched promotion to the top-flight of the Durant Cricket National Counties Championship by winning the Western Division Two title following a draw against Wales NC at Abergavenny. 

Cornwall sit out this weekend’s final round of matches but yesterday's nine points were enough to confirm top spot and deny Wales and both Wiltshire and Dorset – who drew at the South Wilts club in Salisbury – the opportunity to overtake them.

Slow left-armer Luke Beaven led Berkshire’s fightback with a six wicket haul but the defending champions still face an uphill struggle to avoid defeat against Herefordshire in their final Durant Cricket National Counties Championship Western Division One match at Eastnor. 

Berkshire need to win the match to have any hope of topping the Western Division and progressing to next month’s final and, thanks to Beaven, they restricted Herefordshire to a first innings lead of just 18.
