The best of National Counties cricket will be again showcased over the next three days as relationships with the 18 first-class counties are strengthened and matches are played on some of the hidden gems of cricket grounds around the country.

Gloucestershire, who beat Herefordshire in two highly-competitive Showcase T20 matches last month, have already enjoyed the rural delights – and magnificent hospitality – of Eastnor.

Herefordshire will face Gloucestershire in the first of this season’s Showcase matches between the 20 National Counties and 18 first-class counties at Eastnor on Wednesday June 12.

There will be two T20 matches between the neighbouring counties - starting at 10am and 3pm – rather than a 50 overs contest which has been the format for these matches which are now in their fourth year.

Exning, Great Witchingham, Slough and Oxton have been chosen as venues for Sunday's free-to-see National Counties Trophy quarter-finals.

Exning will host the Cambridgeshire v Suffolk tie and will be a home match for Cambridgeshire even though the ground is situated in Suffolk.

The board of the National Counties Cricket Association will meet to discuss whether it is possible to reschedule National Counties T20 Finals Day after rain washed out the reserve day at Chester Boughton Hall.

Despite a more optimistic weather forecast and the efforts of the host club’s groundstaff,  further beefy showers during the morning topped up Sunday’s heavy rain and left the ground unplayable.

Alleyne praise for Herefordshire and Counties Cricket

Gloucestershire head coach Mark Alleyne was full of praise for Herefordshire and National Counties cricket in general after a successful first Showcase fixture of the season at Eastnor earlier this week.

Gloucestershire requested two T20 matches rather than the usual Showcase format of one 50 overs contest and to play a month earlier than the other matches between the 20 National Counties and 18 first-class counties.

Holders Staffordshire will meet Berkshire in a re-run of last season’s semi-final at National Counties T20 Finals Day at Chester Boughton Hall on Sunday May 26.

Twelve months ago a spectacular 147 from just 66 balls from Nils Priestley swept Staffordshire to a 68 runs victory over Berkshire at Tring Park before they beat Cornwall in the final.
