Callum Harvey took his maiden five wicket haul to give Devon the early advantage on a rain-interrupted opening day of the NCCA Cluberly Championship final against Buckinghamshire at West Bromwich Dartmouth.

Slow left-armer Harvey, one of five Devon players who are in their first season of National Counties cricket, found some early turn and took six for 60 as Buckinghamshire slipped from 161 for four to 187 for nine in seven overs.

Rain in the South West meant there were short rations in both the Western Division One matches but leaders Devon made up for lost time by reducing Oxfordshire to 107 for six in the 33.4 overs that were possible in the evening session at Sidmouth.

It could have been worse for Oxfordshire without cameos from Luke Hayes (32) and Freddie Smith (30 not out) with Sam Read taking three for 30 and Lawrence Walker four slip catches.

Buckinghamshire and Devon will meet in a repeat of the 2023 NCCA Championship final at West Bromwich Dartmouth on Sunday after they clinched the Eastern and Western Division titles on a rain-affected final day.

Both sides secured top spot in their respective divisions despite not bowling a ball on the final day of the regular season.

Norfolk won the NCCA T20 for the first time by beating Dorset by 12 runs in a tense final at Wormsley.

Norfolk’s success followed their triumph in the 50-overs National Counties Trophy 12 months ago and was achieved without their captain and talisman Sam Arthurton who was ruled out of both the final and semi-final victory over Oxfordshire at the start of the day after he suffered an ankle injury playing club cricket yesterday.

Berkshire pair Rhys Lewis and Jonny Connell broke the county’s first wicket partnership record against Oxfordshire at Thame in Western Division One.

The pair added 256 before they were parted which surpassed the 226 that Gary Loveday and Martin Lickley put on, also against Oxfordshire, in 1991.
