Sticker vs Liskeard
James Lorenz scored his 14th goal of the season as in-form Liskeard saw off hard-working Sticker on a wet and windy afternoon at Burngullow Park.

The South West Peninsula League premier west’s top scorer broke the deadlock with the last kick of the first half and could have had several more.

But it was left to his strike partner, Thomas Cleveland, to secure the points with a cracker 17 minutes from time.

A young Sticker side never gave up and their goalkeeper Morgan Coxhead produced a player of the match performance, making a string of excellent saves.

Liskeard had many players on top form but nobody gave more than Macauley Thorp in midfield.

The Blues came close to scoring in the 12th minute when Lorenz sidestepped the Sticker keeper and rolled the ball towards the net but it was cleared off the line.

Lorenz threatened again in the 34th minute with a low shot which finished just wide and seven minutes later a sweeping move ended with Cleveland beating the keeper with a powerful shot which struck the outside of the post.

Just as the Blues looked likely to go in at half-time without reward, Lorenz ran onto a through ball from Woods, swept around the keeper and fired into an empty net.

Boosted by the goal, Liskeard started the second half on fire, with Cleveland, Lorenz and Tom Savigar all having goal-bound shots kept out by the brilliant Coxhead in the opening four minutes.

Brown tried his luck from 25 yards but again Coxhead was equal to it with a superb save, tipping the ball around the post.

After such a strong start to the half, Liskeard almost conceded a goal in the 56th minute when Alfie Flack lifted a shot over keeper Luke Gwillam, who could only look back as the ball crashed against the bar. Derek Lucas followed up but put the rebound over.

Liskeard went back on the front foot and a breakaway should have brought them a second goal in the 72nd minute but Lorenz lifted his close range shot over the bar.

It was 2-0 a minute later as Cleveland smashed a stunning left-footer into the far corner from 20 yards after having his initial right footed effort blocked.

Lorenz was denied by the keeper’s legs two minutes later and seven minutes from time Thorp curled in a superb shot which again brought out the best in Coxhead.
