Plymouth Marjon men’s first team face a testing opening weekend with a Premiership trip to ambitious Bristol club Firebrands (Clifton College 1400) followed swiftly by tomorrow's home England Hockey Men’s Cup second round tie against national league side Team Bath Buccaneers at the University of St Mark & St John (1230).

Pool three runners-up Gloucestershire meet pool four winners Norfolk in the B Division semi-finals at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club, Chigwell today at 1300.

WOMENS HOCKEY Canterbury clinch crown at Clifton

investec womens hockey league logoCanterbury won the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division by a point and secured a place in Europe next season following a final round 2-0 win at Clifton Ladies Hockey Club courtesy of goals from Nikki Lloyd and Kim Young.

Despite a resounding 5-1 win over Bowdon Hightown, Reading finish in second place and must now look to the play-offs to book a European berth.

Simon Tremlett's resurgent Exeter side maintained their great escape bid with a surprise 4-1 win at seventh placed Havant to move within four points of the four teams above them in Men’s Conference West, including eighth placed Cheltenham.

The Bristol side have made a brilliant start to 2014 with home wins over University of Birmingham (4-0) Olton & West Warwicks (4-0) and last week’s 1-0 victory at Leicester, courtesy of Liz Sinton’s 64th minute penalty corner strike.
