University of Exeter claimed their first Men’s Hockey League Premier Division point with a 1-1 comeback draw at defending champions Surbiton.

James Thomas converted a 52nd minute penalty corner opportunity for the newly promoted greens just four minutes after former University ace James Royce had put the home side ahead in open play.

Exeter University begin their Men's Hockey League Premier promotion season at home to East Grinstead at the University Sports Park today (1230).
Clifton Robinsons Ladies opened their Women's Hockey League Premier campaign with a 1-0 victory at Canterbury thnaks to a 32nd minute penalty corner winner from Devon's former Exeter University ace Claire Thomas.

It feels as though the hockey season has really got underway in the region today as the men’s West of England & South Wales Hockey League 2018/19 season starts with a full programme of fixtures.

The national England Hockey League started last weekend - with Premier Division games - as did the regional West Clubs Women’s Hockey League.

England Hockey have released the league calendar dates and division constitution for next season's Investec Women's Hockey League and Men's Hockey League.

The new national league season will start over the weekend of Saturday September 29 and Sunday September 30.

Promoted Exeter University's return to the Men's Hockey League Premier Division ended in a 4-1 opening day defeat by East Grinstead at the University Sports Park.
James Ferguson scored Exeter's sole goal in the 46th minute to reduce the arrears to 2-1 before David Condon made it 3-1 four minutes later.

Exeter University men’s first team bounced back from an opening defeat to beat Oxted 2-1 at University of Birmingham to win promotion to England Hockey’s 10 team top flight.
