NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 Dorset win three on spin

Dorset made it three straight wins in National Counties T20 Trophy Group Two with a six wickets victory over Devon in a low-scoring opening contest at Exmouth before rain washed out the second match.

Devon struggled to 92 for seven against miserly bowling with Rob Pack leading the way with two for 20 with good support from David Scott (one for 14) and Hampshire’s Ross Whiteley (one for 18).

NATIONAL COUNTIES Dorset make winning T20 start

NCCA-Logo MasterOxfordshire enjoyed mixed fortunes at the start of their defence of the National Counties T20 title with a win and a loss in their Group Four opener against Buckinghamshire at Wormsley. 

Having started with a 10 runs defeat in the first match of the day, Oxfordshire bounced back in the second with a four wickets victory thanks to decisive contributions from two contracted county players, Samit Patel and Harrison Ward.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon promoted, Dorset relegated

NCCA-Logo MasterLincolnshire and Berkshire will meet in the National Counties Championship at West Bromwich Dartmouth from September 4 to 7 having finished top of their respective divisions in contrasting fashion on the last day of the regular season. 

While Berkshire eased to an innings and 20 runs victory over Herefordshire before lunch at the Falkland club in Newbury, Lincolnshire had to fight a day-long rear-guard action to deny Norfolk victory at Manor Park.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon force Wiltshire follow-on

Devon tightened their grip on the National Counties Championship Western Two title and promotion after Gloucestershire Academy slow left-armer Max Shepherd took five first innings wickets against Wiltshire at Sidmouth. 

Morning rain frustrated Devon who then had to overcome resistance led by Jack Stearman’s half-century.

Devon kept themselves on course to win Western Division Two by making 402 against Wiltshire at Sidmouth. 

Matt Thompson’s 128, his first Championship century in three years, was the centrepiece of Devon’s innings and helped them recover from the early loss of openers James Horler and Adam Small.

Devon moved to the top of Western Division Two by routing Shropshire by 280 runs at Bridgnorth. 

Shropshire managed to take the match into the afternoon session – but only just – thanks to a bold counter-attacking 68 not out from Joe Stanley.
