Cornwall's Grampound Road are through to the national Village Cup semi-finals, following in the footsteps of Troon and Werrington in the past.

Rain just before the start of Road's quarter-final with Hook & Newham Basics meant a delay of over five hours before an eight-over game was able to be played.

COUNTIES CRICKET Hill impresses on Devon debut

Somerset Academy batter Fin Hill impressed on his debut for Devon by making 90 in their Western Division One match against Berkshire who made a stuttering start to their title defence at the Falkland club in Newbury. 

With Ben Beaumont (42) and Jack Moore (45) also contributing useful middle-order runs, Devon recovered from 68 for four to 272 all out and then reduced Berkshire to 47 for five.

COUNTIES CRICKET Wiltshire through to semi-finals

Holders Berkshire, Wiltshire, Suffolk and Cumbria will contest this season’s National Counties Trophy semi-finals on Sunday July 16. 

Berkshire, seeking to win the competition for a fourth successive season, successfully chased down a target of 297 to beat Dorset by three wickets in their quarter-final at Wimborne.

COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy round-up, Cornwall miss out

Berkshire kept alive their dream of winning the National Counties Trophy for a fourth successive season by solving a complicated equation to secure qualification for next Sunday’s quarter-finals. 

Berkshire needed three things to go their way if they were to avoid missing out on the last eight for the first time since 2016. Firstly, they had to beat Bedfordshire at Southill Park, then they had to rely on Hertfordshire doing them a favour by beating Cornwall at North Mymms and, if both of those results happened, they also needed a significant swing in net run rate to oust Cornwall.

Pacesetters Penzance remain unbeaten after hitting a mammoth 348-9 at home to Helston with Christian Purchase smashing a century.

The victory followed by 150 runs, Niran Wijewardene top scored with 63 for the visitors.
