COUNTIES CRICKET Dorset secure quarter-final place

Dorset, Cumbria and Hertfordshire secured their places in the quarter-finals of this season’s National Counties Trophy and will have the incentive of home advantage to play for in the final round of group matches on June 25. 

Dorset made sure of qualification from Group Four by beating Wales NC by 18 runs at Panteg and now face Wiltshire at Dorchester next Sunday to decide who will top the group and host the runners-up in Group Two in the quarter-finals on July 2.

CORNWALL CRICKET Five wins on spin for Penzance

Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket LeagueDefending Cornwall Premier League champions Penzance remain the only unbeaten team in the top flight after notching their fifth win on spin, at home to Redruth.

Penzance are yet to drop a bonus point after bowling the Reds out for 196 in the 46th over. Toby Whiteford top scored with 52 and newcomer Simon Danby made 46.

NATIONAL COUNTIES Wiltshire secure quarter-final spot

Northumberland, Suffolk and Wiltshire booked their places in the quarter-finals of this season’s National Counties Trophy with the group stage of the competition only at the halfway stage. 

Suffolk guaranteed passage from Group Three by beating Cambridgeshire by 27 runs at Exning, Northumberland held their nerve to defeat Oxfordshire by two wickets in a rain-affected match at Banbury to secure a top two finish in Group One and Wiltshire made it three wins out of three by beating Wales NC by six runs in another shortened contest at Warminster to do the same in Group Four.

COUNTIES CRICKET Back to back wins for Wiltshire

NCCA-Logo MasterStaffordshire took county cricket back to Smethwick’s Broomfield ground for the first time in 41 years but it was Wiltshire who enjoyed the experience most as they eased to a seven wickets victory in Group Four of the National Counties Trophy.  

Having launched their Trophy campaign with a three wickets victory over Buckinghamshire on Monday, Wiltshire again paced their chase to perfection, this time getting home with six overs to spare with former Glamorgan batter Tom Cullen (67 not out) and Ben Draper (57 not out) closing out the win with an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 114.

Only Penzance and St Austell remain unbeaten after three rounds of the Bond Timber Cornwall Premier League.

Penzance enjoyed a winning weekend following a seven-wicket success at Bridgwater in the National Club Championship.
