NCCA-Logo MasterFormer Glamorgan pace bowler Kaz Szymanski took a Championship-best six for 58 to keep Devon firmly in charge of their Western Division Two match against Shropshire at Bridgnorth. 

Oxford University batter George Hargrave made a half-century in his first Championship innings of the season but Shropshire lost six wickets for 40 and needed a last wicket stand of 68 between captain Sam Whitney and Ben Roberts to lift them to 255.

COUNTIES CRICKET Devon scorch to record-breaking 503

Devon piled up the second highest total in their history on a day when batters made runs in the sun in the National Counties Championship. 

Devon’s 503 for five against Shropshire at Bridgnorth in Western Division Two was their highest total in 120 years and has only been bettered by the county record 533 for seven they made against Dorset at Sherborne School in 1902.

NATIONAL COUNTIES TROPHY Familiar look to final

Berkshire and Cumbria will meet in the final of the National Counties Trophy for the third successive season following comfortable victories over Dorset and Oxfordshire in today’s semi-finals. 

Defending champions Berkshire, who are aiming for a hat-trick of Trophy titles to go with the ones they won in 2019 and 2021 – the competition was not played in 2020 owing to COVID-19 – beat Dorset by 88 runs at Finchampstead.

COUNTIES CRICKET Somerset beat Devon by six wickets

Devon opener James Horler took the opportunity to showcase his talent in the six wickets defeat by Somerset at Bovey Tracey. 

Horler made 83 from 110 balls but Elliot Hamilton was the only other batter to top 20 and Devon were dismissed for 181 with four overs unused.
