NATIONAL COUNTIES Wadlan's best for Wales

Oxfordshire launched their defence of the National Counties Championship title with a four wickets win over Cheshire in their Western Division One opener at Alderley Edge. 

A maiden Championship century from acting-captain Harry Smith and a brisk maiden half-century from Prav Chahal saw Oxfordshire home after they had wobbled at 162 for six with the experienced slow left-armer David Wainwright taking half of the wickets.

NATIONAL COUNTIES Championship final day preview

Defending champions Oxfordshire still have work to do on the final day of their Western Division One match against Cheshire at Alderley Edge today (1100 start). 

Oxfordshire lost their last five first innings wickets for 44 against the wily slow left-arm of David Wainwright four which meant that they trailed by 57 on first innings.

Wales NC’s experienced batter Brad Wadlan marked his first Championship appearance in four years with a century against Devon at Abergavenny. 

Wadlan’s century was the ninth of his career in the competition and he shared a seventh wicket partnership of 83 with Josef Davies, who made 54 from 51 balls on his debut.

NCCA TROPHY Devon, Dorset and Wales into last eight

NCCA-Logo MasterWales NC reached the quarter-finals of the National Counties Trophy despite being beaten by six wickets by Dorset in their final Group Four match at Wimborne. 

Wales’ early defeat meant that they faced an anxious wait for the outcome of the Buckinghamshire versus Staffordshire match at Gerrards Cross, knowing that they would be level on points with the winner and net run rate would determine who went through with Dorset.

NATIONAL COUNTIES TROPHY review and results

NCCA-Logo MasterWiltshire missed their chance to guarantee their place in the quarter-finals as they were trounced by 149 runs by Wales NC in the first senior county match played at Llandysul. 

A win would have taken Wiltshire through to the last eight but they were shot out for 85 and now sit out the final round of group matches next Sunday.

NCCA-Logo MasterFormer Northamptonshire captain Alex Wakely made 115 from 114 balls to help Bedfordshire to an 88 runs win over Cornwall at Southill Park. 

Wakely’s century was his first for Bedfordshire since he rejoined them this season having retired from first-class cricket and he shared a third wicket partnership of 213 with left-handed opener Fayaz Homyoon who made a century on his Trophy debut.
