NATIONAL COUNTIES Four T20 openers beaten by rain

NCCA-Logo MasterMore of the double-headers in today’s opening round of National Counties T20 competition have fallen victim to the weather. 

Berkshire’s matches against Wales NC at the Falkland club in Newbury and Wiltshire’s against Devon at the South Wilts club in Salisbury have been cancelled because of waterlogging following the recent heavy rain.

NATIONAL COUNTIES CRICKET Key dates for new season

NCCA-Logo MasterOxfordshire will begin their defence of their National Counties T20 title with a double-header against Buckinghamshire at Wormsley on Sunday April 16. 

Oxfordshire lifted the trophy for the first time last season when they beat Cambridgeshire in a tense final at Tring Park.

NCCA-Logo MasterNational Counties Trophy holders Berkshire will face Wales NC in this season’s quarter-finals on Sunday July 17. 

Berkshire beat Wales in last season’s semi-finals at Port Talbot and will have home advantage this time as the Falkland club in Newbury has been confirmed for the quarter-final tie.

NATIONAL COUNTIES TROPHY 2022 starts today

NCCA-Logo MasterThere may be an unfamiliar look to Berkshire’s side this season but their coach, Tom Lambert, has warned that does not mean they should be written off as they begin their defence of the National Counties Trophy today. 

Four key members of the squad that won eight pieces of silverware in five seasons – brothers James and Richard Morris, Stewart Davison and Chris Peploe – all retired at the end of last season but Berkshire still have a core group of players who contributed to a bulging trophy cabinet.

NATIONAL COUNTIES T20 semi-finals line-up

NCCA-Logo MasterOxfordshire will face Cheshire in the opening semi-final at National Counties T20 Finals Day at Tring Park CC on Sunday May 22.

The first semi-final will start at 10am with the second between Dorset and Cambridgeshire at 1.30pm followed by the final at 4pm.

CRICKET Benkenstein new Gloucestershire head coach

Gloucestershire CCCDale Benkenstein is the new Gloucestershire County Cricket Club head coach.

The 47-year-old South African, who has previously coached internationally with the Proteas, joins The Shire on a three-year-deal that will see him lead the Club’s coaching department until at least the end of the 2024 season.
