SW GOLF Double success for unbeaten Somerset

South Western Counties Golf Association shieldUnbeatable Somerset clinched the matchplay shield at England Golf South West Week following four wins in a row at Bristol & Clifton.

English County Finals-bound Somerset followed up Tuesday's stroke play success and match play wins over Wiltshire, Dorset and Cornwall by ending host Gloucestershire's unbeaten start to claim the coveted shield ahead of a final day win over Devon.


SW GOLF Dorset's Robson new South West champion

Dorset’s Tom Robson is the new South Western Counties amateur golf champion.

Robson, 23 from Weymouth Golf Club, finished two shots ahead of Clevedon teenager Ali Balcombe following a four holes medal play-off after they completed 36 holes one under at Bristol & Clifton.


SW GOLF Burnham & Berrow first for PGA Championship

Somerset golf ace David Dixon (Enmore Park GC)The PGA Professional Championship is being staged over the links at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club beside the sea at Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset for the first time this summer.

PGA pros will have nine regional venues to choose from in a bid to reach the £78,000 final which takes place in Somerset from June 2-5.


SW GOLF South West side to face Midlands

South West amateur champion Tom Fox is set to make his fourth appearance in the regional representative side alongside fellow county championship winners Rob MacGregor, from Camborne club Tehidy Park, and rising England Under 18 star Harry Hall from Lelant club West Cornwall.


SW GOLF South West Week tees off at RND

Matt Wells of Saunton Golf Club Royal North Devon Golf Club on the Northam Burrows at Westward Ho! is the seaside setting for this year's annual South Western Counties Golf Association Championship.

Founded in 1864 and the oldest golf course in England, RND – as it is affectionately referenced – is celebrating its 150th anniversary.


WESTWARD HO! Mullen is home course favourite

England golf international Jimmy Mullen will be among the favourites to win this weekend’s 72 hole West of England Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship over his home course at Royal North Devon Golf Club.

The three-day annual event alternates between Saunton and RND and historically attracts a top class amateur field to North Devon.
