Cornwall teed off women’s South West Golf Week with a barnstorming 8½ -½ win over hosts Wiltshire at Wrag Barn.


SW GOLF Cooper and Somerset new U18s champions

South Western Counties Golf Association shieldWiltshire's James Cooper is the 2017 South West U18 boys champion.

The 17-year-old Cumberwell Park ace backed up a scorching morning four under 66 with a superb afternoon 69 at Came Down Golf Club, near Dorchester, to win the regional championship by two strokes from Sherborne’s Tom Plumb.


WEST REGION PGA Newquay pro Gill masters Dudsbury

Cornwall-based golf professional Chris Gill swept through the field to win the Dudsbury Masters on a spectacular day of scoring at the Bournemouth course.

Gill, 38, pipped Wessex Golf Centre pro Michael Watson at the first extra play-off hole after both players stormed to the leaderboard summit on 133 following scorching rounds in the PGA in England & Wales (South West) event.


AMATEUR GOLF Super South West Week 2017

South West strokeplay champions South Western Counties Golf Association crest Somerset are the only unbeaten side following the matchplay rounds at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club.

After qualifying for the English County Finals at Trevose in style, Justin Lane's side powered to their fourth Matchplay Shield win beating Devon by the biggest score of South West Week on Thursday and then rallying for a final round draw with Cornwall.


AMATEUR GOLF Somerset and Poole in super form

South Western Counties Golf Association shieldWill Poole and Jamie Clare were in red hot form as Somerset’s super six scorched through to September’s English County Finals on sun-kissed home turf at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club.

Poole posted back to back 65s to finish 10 under and pip Sam Sloman to the South West amateur championship title by one shot.


WOMENS GOLF Gloucestershire at English County Finals

england golf logoGloucestershire put South West women’s golf to the fore again at this week’s England Golf Women’s County Finals at Waterlooville Golf Club in Hampshire.

It will be the South West women's champions' sixth successive appearance at the national county finals and this week they are set to include the tournament’s youngest player in 13-year-old Ffion Tynan, the English U14 girls champion.
