AMATEUR GOLF South West Week update

South Western Counties Golf Association shieldDefending South West men's amateur golf team champions Somerset opened their week-long title defence against Ian Veale's Cornwall at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, Bradford-on-Avon with an 8 ¼-¾ win. 
Justin Lane's Somerset side swept all before them at Weston-super-Mare last summer to win both matchplay and strokeplay team titles, in doing so qualifying for the England County Finals as the South West champions.


SW GOLF Sloman new champion, Gloucestershire qualify

england golf logoTaunton & Pickeridge amateur ace Tom Sloman is the new South West England Golf champion.

Somerset’s Sloman scored brilliant back to back 65s to finish 12 under par and pip Bristol’s Mitch Waite to the individual strokeplay title at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, Bradford-on-Avon.


AMATEUR GOLF Channel League tees off + women's golf

Justin Lane’s all-conquering Somerset side teed off their regional men’s Channel League defence with an 8½-6½ win over border rivals Wiltshire at Minehead & West Somerset GC.

Somerset topped the league by the narrowest of margins last year, level on four points with runners-up Glamorgan edging the title on one more game won and one less lost.


AMATEUR GOLF Somerset seek to bounce back at Trevose

England Golf logoThe three-day four counties English Men’s County Championship teed off yesterday at Trevose Golf & Country Club on the North Cornwall coast. 

Northumberland, Hampshire and Staffordshire have won the English County Finals before while Justin Lane’s South West champions Somerset target their first win.


WOMENS GOLF Gloucestershire national decider today

England golf logoGloucestershire need only halve their final match today to successfully defend the English Women’s County Finals title.

Bottom of the table Buckinghamshire produced the surprise result of the finals when they held table topping Yorkshire to a 4½-4½ draw at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club.


Burnage wins South of England Amateur Championship

Devon golf ace Jake Burnage (Saunton GC) has won the prestigious 2017 South of England Open Amateur Championship at Walton Heath in Surrey.

England international Burnage finished 11 under pipping Jack Yule (Kings Lynn GC) by one stroke after 72 holes over the New and Old courses at Walton Heath.
